Hey folks, as I replace my fuel tank sender this fall/winter I looked into the sp69A vs sp69B from spectra premium. The A has a single 5/16" outlet while the B has two fittings, a 3/8" outlet with a 1/4" return fitting.

I was thinking of purchasing the B from Amazon for $58.

Since my current setup is the 5/16" single outlet if I were to implement the recommended mod using the 3 fitting fuel filter I has a couple of questions.

1. Can the return line from the fuel filter to the tank be rubber or does it need to be metal?
2. Is there an issue with the 3/8" outlet on the fuel tank sender mating with the 5/16" line already in my car?

Thanks for the information!!

John

I'm going to tell you what i did, and why I wouldn't run rubber all the way back on the car to the tank.

It's hard to get the rubber line to stay seated well even after I used several holding brackets, and there are a lot of sharp bends to move it through that could possibly cut it. Also the rubber line blew up on me 2 times under the car. I spent $25, bought 20' of 3/8" steel line, and bent it up and ran it to the tank. No more blow ups, and it stayed up against the body way better.

Also I worried something would fly up at the undercarriage and cut the fuel line. This was a return line as well off of a fuel regulator in the engine bay.

^^ This advice is good. Additionally, rubber fuel line rots out and under the car is not typically checked very often. Metal line is easy to find and fit up.

I would not try to put 5/16' fuel line over a 3/8" nipple; it'll tend to crack/split prematurely. Shop around and you will be able to find some brass hose nipples of the 2 sizes to thread into a coupler to make and adapter.
