Hello-im heading to Summit Racing- Ohio-in the spring....checkbook in hand...to re-do my original 13" (who knew?) rims and tires on my sweet slant 6 270 dart-38000 miles
Im seeking ANY recommendations - rims tire size centers rings etc-
my chums want me to go 14" basic orig rally wheels/ black centers.
im not a real fan of white lettered tires on an original looking 6 popper dart w vinyl roof---BUT? other options? suggestions? i will consider the white lettered tho.... if im gonna drop $1000 in the rims tires the works...should i put lettered tires on my car?....or...any feedback?
what tire size combo? im more about driving/ maneuvering and comfort ..than the racing look/ stiff ride.
same tire size- on all 4 ? or?

My preference would be true cop rims with trim rings and cop dog dishes or Cragar SSs. Slotted mags or hurricane/cyclone rims would look cool too. Keystones look good too.

Are you staying with the original small bolt pattern (5x4 inches) or are you upgrading the brakes and rear axle to the larger bolt pattern (5x4.5)? MUCH more choices for rims in the large bolt pattern, but you will be lucky to get change from a $1000 bill if you are going to upgrade the front brakes and rear axle.

We will assume that you still have the small bolt pattern on your 68.

Wheel selection for the SBP Mopar, "5 on 4" (5 lugs on a 4 inch bolt circle = "Small Bolt Pattern") is limited but look to see what is available in 15 inch rims.
Tire selection for 13, 14 and even 15 inch rim size tires, continues to shrink so I would try to get the biggest rim size possible.

I don't mean to hijack your post but I am going through the same hoops you are right now. My 63 Valiant 2 dr has four brand new P175 80 R13 on it as well as two additional new 13" spares. But....I just got 4 14" small bolt pattern rims back from a powder coater and am in a quandary. If I choose to change to 14" tires, which would look/fit better on my drum brake car: 205 70 R14 or 185 70 R14? Would the larger 205 size tire require any wheel well or fender mods? Thank you.

14 x 4.5 or 14 x 5.5?

If 4.5, you can only use 185 75 14s


I use 195 70s on a 5.5


The 205s will work just fine on the 5.5s, there's plenty of room.

My rims are 4.5. Wouldn't a "75" tire be larger than the "60" I am thinking about putting on the car? Bare with me...I'm dumb as dirt about these matters.

some of the folks are asking for your cars' bolt pattern measurement too.



and no... a 75 aspect ratio tire has a narrower cross sectional measurement than a 60 series tire.

maybe look at some of the tech articles on www.tirerack.com to better understand tire size measurements.

Not quite true. A 195/** ** has the same 195 mm section width whether it's a 75, 70, 60, or even a 55 series aspect ratio. The aspect ratio alters the sidewall height and changes the overall diameter only.
Of course there are many other variables that can affect fitment, the tirerack links are a good place to learn about it all.

I guess I meant Tire height..when referring to the aspect ratio.

The P195 measurement is the tread's cross section in Millimeters.
