I'm planning on doing an internship in Sydney for half a year starting around August.
( I'm studying Marketing/Communications in Amsterdam)
Because I'm a petrolhead ( and because I leave the Dart at home) I was wondering if it would be easy to buy a Mopar of some sort when I'm there,.. I've been to Australia before, I drove a HQ Holden with a red 202 inline 6 at that time, so another one of those would be my second choice.

So, what are my chances on driving a Hemi or slant6 down-under?

(Any internship-advice or adresses are welcome too btw.)

You should be able to find a VH through to CM Valiant fairly easily('72-'81), which will most likely have a 245 or 265 Hemi.
Slants generally finished here in VF Valiants so you might be able to find an early model if you keep your eyes open.
Check out http://www.moparmarket.com/ for some bargains.

Are you folks from down under really referred to as "Ozzies" or is it "Aussies"? Not to be nit-picky, but I want to get it right.

Both are correct,...

I would like to know how they managed to build the steering on the rightside of the engine! Wonder if there were cars like this fitted with powerbrakes? (Hydrovac boosters?)

If this car is still for sale when I get there, I'll pick it up!

Dutch.....Yes, there was a large number of cars fitted with power brakes. What's interesting about the setup, though, is that the booster is mounted on the left side of the firewall! (Yes, I said left.)

What they did was to mount a single piston master on the right side, and route the hydraulic output of it to a small cylinder on the "input" side of the booster, (mounted on the left), so that it was effectively a "hydraulic pushrod" between the driver's foot and the booster. The booster had a regular master on it that acted in a normal manner that we in the U.S., (and I assume in your country), are used to.

There was a post on the board somewhere that had a link in it that took you to a batch of pics, and some of them had a good view of the engine compartment. I'll try to find it and get it over to this one.

Roger

Found it!! Take a look at engine bay 15. It's a pretty good shot showing both M/C's, and how they're set up.

Additional space was freed up for the steering box by reworking the oil pump/filter setup. Instead of the direct-mount system as used on LHD cars, a different oil pump was installed. This had threaded fittings for inlet and outlet. Hydraulic lines were threaded into these fittings and run to a remote oil filter. Depending on the year, model and market, the oil filter was in one of several places:

-Cartridge type oil filter on the RH inner fenderwell, above the oil pump (RHD '60-'61 cars)

-Cartrdge-type oil filter on a bracket bolted to the top water pump bolts (Australian "SV1" 1962 Valiants -- this is the location that was used for the A/C compressor, to give a mental picture)

-Spin-on filter on a bracket welded to the valve cover (South African market Slant-6 cars, '63-up)

-Spin-on filter on a bracket on the LH side of the engine near the oil pan rail (Australian market Slant-6 cars, '63-up -- must've made power steering interesting, but would've made for super-simple filter changes.)

Hey, Dutch, what colour are your '65 Barreiros Dart's rear turn signals? Are they amber? Can we see a picture?

Yep, they are amber. I'll put a pic under here. I've seen them in white and red, don't know if they made amber ones in the US but mine are. I've got white on the front but these are availiable in amber, don't know if these are original,...

this is the best pic I could find on my computer, if you would like to see a better one let me know and I'll make one.

Yah, I'd love to see a clearer shot of the rear turn signal in action.

I visited Amsterdam in 1995/96. Had a lot fun there!
