Checked the rear in the 66 Valiant yesterday afternoon to see what gear it was running. I turned the yoke as it does not have a driveshaft as of yet, both tires started turning, the left one quit for a bit and then started turning again. Is this an indication there may be a problem with this rear end? I,m not that familiar with a sure-grip.

You have the std open rear. I guess you could call it an 'Unsure Grip'.

Where can you get a 8 3/4 rear end? Is there remanufactored ones or is the JY the only way?

Are you talking just the "chunk" (gearset) or the whole axle assy?
The chunks are avail. aftermarket from a few vendors-- you can even get a billet case **$$$**
The axle is JY only... but if you're savvy, check out e-bay... deals pop up there from time to time.
