One thing, though: if you want to keep your engine (i.e., you want it to live a long and happy life), you really will want to figure out some actual air filters. Those K&N things don't qualify as such. They'll keep out spiders, seashells, small children, and chunks of concrete. Actual dust and grit flies right through 'em and into your engine. Lou, just wanted to mention that I also powder coated my Dutra Duals. I live in a foggy area and my exhaust manifolds would get rust all over them if I didn't drive it for a couple days even. No longer an issue. Yes, I too hope the break in goes well and she runs super.

Dan, absolutely! I've been looking for alternative air cleaners. I used the K&N's because they were the only one's who make a base plate for 32/34 DFT Webers, it's not a nice rectangle, it's a weird shape. Actually it didn't even fit, I had to remove 1mm of material from the hole before it would even fit on the carbs. Short of making my own, there are three other choices I see:

1. I've been trying to find a paper element that'll fit these K&N housings, the K&N part number is E-3442. It's an oval element, but I was thinking I could find a round paper disposable one and work it into an oval shape. It has to be 2" tall or close, and 7 3/8 in diameter to work, but I can't find any size information on anything other than K&N online. If anyone knows how to find such a paper element I'd be glad to hear from you.

2. I just found these, which are also made for the 32/34 DFT: http://ramair-filters.co.uk/rs-carb-fil ... plate.html they use foam as the filter.

3. Finally, there is Weiand, who makes a blank base plate in their 600 series air cleaners, I could cut it using my K&N as a template. I really think these would look great on there, but is the foam any good at stopping dust? There is a US distributor who sells these for $50/piece.

I know when I service the foam air cleaner on my lawn mower, the intake side of the foam is pristine, no particles or dirt of any kind, while the outside is coated in gunk/dirt.

My K&N's do leave much to be desired. Honestly I think the K&N's are a scam, like razorblades and printer ink. "lifetime" is fine, but it doesn't work well for that whole lifetime.

You could be right, Reed, the 32/34 DFT was used on Ford Fiesta's with a 1.9L 4 banger I believe in the 80's. Not sure what the air cleaner housing looked like though.
