Put in a new clutch set: 9-1/4" Borg&Beck; just a standard item. The clutch works fine with no chatter, no throw-out bearing noise, or anything abnormal at all in its action. Disc was installed with the raised center area away from the flywheel. Flywheel was resurfaced about 125 miles ago, and I roughed it up a bit and cleaned everything thoroughly with brake cleaner.

When engaging the clutch (releasing the clutch pedal) with any significant engine to car speed difference (like starting form a dead stop), there is a faint whine from the clutch. It changes pitch with the disc speed versus the pressure plate and flywheel, going from high to low to nothing as the clutch engages tighter and then fully engages. The tone is a buzz or whirr, like dragging your fingers nails over a taut, coarse bedsheet.

This does not happen when the car is stopped with the clutch pedal held in and the trannie in gear, so at this point, I do not suspect anything in the pilot bushing at this point.

I have never heard anything like this, from 30 or so clutch changes over the years. The only thing I noticed in assembly was the new pressure plate had a small nick in the surface with a slightly raised edge, like you would get with a sharp punch.

I'll keep my ear on this to see if it goes away as I wear in the clutch but any thoughts on this or similar experiences would be appreciated.
