hello I was told you guys would have an answer to this I have a 1972 318 in my boat and I have a 1999 dodge Durango also with a 318, my question are the motor mounts in the same place & is the crank shaft, and bell housing patterns the same. if so I think I can make the switch.

Are you putting the '72 motor in the truck or the '99 motor in the boat? There are some differences that can cause issues.

I would like to put the 99 engine in the boat removing the 72 engine. I need to switch the exhaust risers on to the 99 engine and bolt the drive plate & bell housing over to the 99 engine. the rest of the engine would remain the same both engines are cooled the same way minus the radiator and using a heat exchanger instead.

The '99 engine has no place to mount a mechanical fuel pump, you will have to use an electric fuel pump.

You'll also need to find a carb intake as the '72 intake won't bolt on without redrilling the heads.

I hope the truck oil pan will fit the boat as the rear seal area is different. The Magnum 318 has a smaller rear main cap and oil pan seal area.

yes i can use a electric fuel pump, and as far a the intake i was planning on using the engine as / is. i just wanted to put my drive plate on the crank shaft and bolt my bell housing on. and switch the exhaust manafolds with my marine risers. i am hopeing being both engines being 318's i am hopeing both blocks are the same

The EFI intake manifold won't accept the carburetor and the Magnum heads won't accept the carburetor intake manifold.

What's wrong with the current engine?

I was trying to sell my Durango and realized its the same 318 engine but 30 years newer, but also the 1972, has no pollution on it where the 1999 has all that new stuff, can that engine run with all that pollution stuff taken off and would my exhaust risers from the 1972 fit on the side of the heads on the 1999

It is not really the same, the '99 is a Magnum series. It should physically bolt in, but all the emissions stuff is part of the computer that runs the fuel injection/ignition.

No, but it means you have some decisions to make now before diving in. You can convert the 99 engine to carburetor and adapt a few things (IIRC, the engine mounts are like the 360 of old, it'll work but there was something about moving one side forward or something). If you went the computer route and adapted the fuel injection, you're looking at possibly having a custom flash on the computer or a standalone like Megasquirt to make it run without catalytic converters and such. Bear in mind all those electronics will live in a damp environment.

would my 1972 intake fit on the 1999 engine, and my risers fit the exhaust with this in place, can I eliminate all the pollution stuff and the computer stuff. sorry for all the questions but before trying and finding it will not bolt together or work first, the questions are the smart way to go and you guys know Chrysler engines I am told.
