The bottom line is, if you want to be a Slant Sixer, you do it for the love. That includes the guys who make the parts (Jim Cox and Mark Goodman and notables here). If you want to sell a part, make a few and get some testing done and some of us will buy it if it works.

I have bought 3 sets of roller rockers so far, and would buy a set or two if they were superior to the RAS units, which I do not like much. I am not running the RAS units on any of my cars now because they cannot hold up to garden variety street use.

Sure. I have a set of RAS rockers with a split. 1.6 intake, 1.5 exhaust. Been beating on them for three years in the Hooptie.
The set of T&D's on the Roller Cam mill are 1.6's.

I did some mods on my RAS set to get them to oil properly. I also didn't torque the shafts to "Spec" as RAS chose to turn the rocker shaft down rather than reaming the bushings to fit the shaft. Based on the radius of the rockers, they will likely be OK over the long haul as long as I don't go much past the 0.52ish lift I'm at. The spring rates aren't that high. The highest rpm that engine sees is 5000 rpm. It doesn't sound healthy at 5500 with the itty-bitty skirts.
On the roller cam carrying the T&D's, the lift and spring rates are considerably higher. We'll see how they hold up. I'm more likely to push the head off the block than to have a valve train failure at this point.

Any time there is a new offering, I'm generally up for it. I haven't had a chance to say anything about the copper manifold gasket I got from Scott, since I didn't end up using it on the blown engine. (The intakes are O-ringed, while there is no gasket on the exhaust. (Wouldn't serve any purpose.) I'll get it mounted up on something one of these days.

You might want to reconsider this. I was just looking for some new rocker arms, and shafts (solid and hydraulic) for a customer. They are getting hard to find, and getting pricey. Looks like aftermarket (rollers) are going to become more attractive.

It looks like roller rockers are going to be the only option for solid lifter slant six engines, if you don't have a good set of used stock pieces. I cannont find any company that still has solid lifter rockers and/or assemblies. There are still some shafts available. Just spoke to Pioneer on the phone, and they are out of stock, and probably will not have any more. They do have some hydraulic parts/assemblies available.

I hope someone can make a set of rollers that are worth anything for street use. I refuse to plumb a spray bar to feed a $500+ set of rockers when the stockers work very well for 100-300k miles, or 10s of k miles with a big cam.

Lou, have you heard of anyone running a Goodman set on the street? I have wondered if they were any different than the RAS sets. Has anyone used a set of T&D's?

I pulled the head off my motor yesterday. I had my 1.6 RAS on, but only for a few runs. I saw no evidence of them pounding the tops of the stems like I saw with my first set.

Sounds like they only halfway machined the rockers to begin with. Common sense would tell anyone that is making these that the roller has to be oiled or it will fail. I will drill a hole through the body from the rocker shaft bore to the roller wheel to get oil, and then from the bore of the shaft to the adjuster to oil the pushrod cup. One problem with this type of oiling system is that as you get wear in the rocker shaft bushing you will loose the ability to keep adequate pressure flowing thru the rocker to the roller tip.

Those holes are there, they are just not adequate. No grooves between the 2 holes in the ID of the bushing to hit both holes from the shaft hole, at least on the first runs of RAS. Wear on stock rockers can be extreme and they still oil fine, so I don't see a problem there.

The key will be to make a set and test it on an actual street or road course car and not just 20 miles in 2 yrs on a dragstrip.

If someone sends me a prototype setup I will be happy to be a guinea pig for a set of street roller rockers. I am going to be running a solid lifter cam in my 225 powered truck.

I'm game! By December I should have most of the problems fixed with the engine in my truck and be running a Super Six setup with a hotter cam (can't recall the profile off hand).

Sure, but that should be many miles/years/decades' worth of wear we're talking about, no?

(Also, what ratio do you plan on making these rockers? Stock is nominally 1.5, and the only commercially-available high-perf units from back when the Slant-6 was still a current engine were the cast iron Gotha items at 1.6. If I were waving the magic wand to bring new rockers into existence, I'd probably want 1.6.)
