Does any one know of an after-market ESS that can be used on older cars? What I envision is one that would mount on the speedometer cable connection on the transmission and then the cable go into the ESS. Thanx in advance. RMDV

I have a custom all digital Nordskog gauge based dash in my 66 Dart... their sender hooked up just fine to the dash end of my speedo cable. It can be set up at either end though.

Heavy trucks and equipment use electric speedometers all the time.

The nordskorg sender is similar to them. Basically it's a generator that is driven by the speedometer cable or the adaptor gear. The first place I would look is heavy truck wrecking yards. You could probably find the used parts you need for much less than you could get new aftermarket components for. Look for an early model truck built before about 1995. I just walked by a truck in our yard today that had the parts you need and it wasnt too old either.

Autometer and VDO make these. You ask for the electronic speedometer and they use a speed sensor that attaches to the transmission. It works just like the modern ones.
