Jusr rebuilt the top end of my slant 6 and the truck had an electric fuel pump in which has failed..So there was a new Napa pump (Manual) behind the seat so i removed the old pump and it came straight out without any pressure at all being on the pump and the new one went back in the same..Now it won't pick up any fuel at all..I suspect the cam lobe may be quite worn as the pump i removed barley had a mark on the shaft where the cam is supposed to ride..If the pump were not timed right with the cam would it still go in that easy or do i need to remove the pump and start over?To make sure the cam is really worn?I suspect thats why the electric pump was installed..in the first place..Thanks..truck has 128k miles

The new pump could have a torn diaphragm if it has been sitting. You might want to try priming it by putting the input hose into a gas can in the engine compartment so there is less distance for the gas to travel. Also, look for gas leaking at the pump.

Could be a worn cam eccentric. You can stick your finger in the hole with the fuel pump out and feel if the eccentric has wear/ridges in it. This can really starve you for fuel and make the truck run poorly (or not at all).

But don't do it with the engine running!

Check the rubber fuel lines too. There should be one on the right frame, where the line comes off the frame and turns to go across the cross member to the tank, and another rubber hose at the tank. My truck had loose hose clamps in those locations, leaking just enough to prevent it from picking up fuel.

And they could be cracked, letting air in.
