Post subject: A 518 OD tranny

Have got a 64 Fury 4 door and am planning to stick in a /6 from a 74 valiant. number of questions. First, just read an article on swapping in a A-518 auto OD into a 340 Duster and wondered if it would work for the slant 6, second, I read several questions on obtaining duel exhaust manifolds but found no info on getting some for myself and would definatly like them if for no other reason then making my wife mad. Tanks, Richard

The A518 and A500 OD trannies only came with small block v8 bellhousing bolt pattens. You have to get an adapter to allow it to bolt to a slant 6.

The contact data for the Dutra Duals is also in the online parts database.

I have done this OD auto swap with an A500 into my '68 Dart. You should have more room in your Fury, so an A518 might not be too tough either, although it's probably not necessary. You need an adapter plate from a pre-'68 PU or van with a 727 and Slant 6. You'll have to fab a new lower X-member and rear mount, shorten driveshaft, and some other odds and ends.

It's some work, but it works pretty well. Be advised that you can't get very high stall converters for the lockup tranny's (which mine is).

I have the first of my new design /6 to 727 billet aluminum adapter finished up and am doing some final test fittings. I should have info on the website in another month or two.
