RE: RODS
I always install one rod/piston assy, torque, and rotate. That way if there is a problem, I know where it is. Might be a stupid question, but the rod caps, are with the rods they came from, correct? Also installed the correct way (notch to notch).

if using the OEM steel shim gasket. If using the felpro head gasket, install without using any sealer.
How come? I can't think of a reason not to use copper gasket spray on a composite head gasket.

I guess you could, but why? These things seal great in any case and you are making your life simpler later with potential cleaning issues. I used spray copper on composition gaskets a few times, but haven't done it in about 20 yrs.

I did years ago, but the newest felpro head gasket for the slant six, is a different type. It is slightly thinner, and more like a multi layer gasket, it has a coating, and a rubber type embosing at possible leak areas. Moreover Felpro says to install dry.

Ah, I haven't used the new-type Fel-Pro gasket. If they say put it on dry, then…put it on dry!
