Here is the latest MoparConnection.com contribution to the magazine. This story focuses upon the economy aspect of distributor tuning. The performance we had gained was not lost, but we optimized the distributor (vacuum advance) to achieve decent mileage (well above the factory rated MPG for 1975) while maintaining excellent drivability.

Thanks again ChrisHolley. Great article. I'm not quite there yet. I'll have to read the article several times to ensure that I fully comprehend it. I tried DI's quick and dirty method but came up with 22* base timing at idle which seems way too high to be right. I must have missed something somewhere.

Base timing should not be higher than 12 degrees on an old unmodded engine(more with the ESC settings on a sytem that functions correctly on a newer motor)... hipo engines can go up to 16 but depending on a few different factors the engine may kick back during start up in the 14-16 range.
