Greetings and Salutations!
After 30 years of driving, I've finally landed with a /6.
I'm now trying to figure out what is what.
I bought a 86 D100. A883 (clutch is done) runs ok, but has been through the hands of several people who, like me, didn't know they were doing.
I've got my eye out for a factory manual.
It has been backdated a bit, which leads to my question:
Originally the module mounted in the fender ran the ignition and I think the carb.
Most all the wiring and vacuum connections have been pulled and plugged.
I'm wondering what carb I have and if the motor /carb are original?
Where do I start?

Thanks!

Pictures would definitely help. At that age it's unlikely to have an original carburetor, but it is possible. If it has wires it's a lean bum carburetor, and it's worth its weight in chicken crap.

It looks like an emissions era BBS that has had the emissions stuff removed. I would strongly suggest you pick up a FSM to see how badly the previous owners bastardized the emission systems. Once you know what you are dealing with, then you can fix the damage.

Otherwise your truck may never run "right".

I totally agree. A FSM is the first part you should buy. The Lean Burn was present but disconnected on my truck when I got it. The only way to get it running correctly was to turn the clock back to 1974 and rip out everything a 1974 (pre-catalyst) didn't have. I gutted the converter and it ran like a scalded ape after that.

You might not have to go to that extreme.

Thanks all!
Now time to track down the elusive FSM.

No, that's no BBS. It's a Holley 1945 with a bunch of ports blocked off. If the original poster will find the list number stamped on/near the top surface of the upper casting, the carb can be identified more specifically.

Service manual is among the three wise-to-have books listed in this thread. Carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads are posted here for free download.
