i went to the muffler shop today to talk to the guy about putting a 2.25 inch exhaust on. he said he thought he'd have to run a 2 in pipe off the stock exhaust manifold and then go into 2.25. is this how anyone elses exhaust is ran or should he be able to put 2.25 pipe from the manifold back? its a 1 bbl exhaust manifold if that make any difference.

That's how they did it for me, too. Make certain that they get the flange from the old header pipe mounted correctly. I think they screwed up on mine. What I noticed was a nicer sound and greater smoothness throughout the RPM range.

Good luck,

Joe

When I had mine done, a new 2.25 flange was used. The outlet hole was big enough for the 2.25 pipe to go inside the hole.

where did you get the 2.25 flange?

How far will they have to come out with the 2 inch if i have to go that way?

The opening in the exhaust manifold is 2 inch.
The reason I use 2 1/4 is to allow for any possible mis-alignment, with 2 1/4 pipe you won't get a step or restriction if the pipe is not perfectly centered on the manifold opening.

The exhaust shop should be able to do 2 1/4 right off the manifold, there are flanges available but the last one I used had large oval bolt holes. I welded some washers over the oval holes to make sure the pipe stayed centered on the manifold opening.
