I have a new turn signal switch with new cancelling cam in the box ready to go in the steering column, the only problem is: how do I route those wires through the column all the way to the bottom where they come out and connect? The wires are just free (meaning not bundled yet), so I am thinking pull out old switch, cut wires on the TOP of steering wheel (where the horn is) then tape or tie or fasten somehow new wires from new switch to the old and pull from the bottom. Can you say run-on sentence?

oh yea for a 1966 dart 270 auto column shift.

anyhow do you think this is the best course of action for this type of job, or is there an easier way, WITHOUT PULLING THE STEERING COLUMN!!???!?!?

I have not done this on a 66 or with the column in place - but I will tell
you my approach and you can ascertain if it may work. I would disconnect
the electrical connector down by the pedal end of the column. Then release each of the wires (blade type pins) from the connector. Tie a
string to one of the blades. Disassemble the top of the column enough
to get the switch and cancelling cam out - then carefully pull the wire
with the string up through the column. Tape all the new wires together
tie the string on them and carefully pull the string back through the
column until the wires emerge. install the blades back into the
connector housing (hope you noted which went where) and connect
it back up. Sounds deceptively easy!

I've never worked on a 66 beforeeither, but I've done this on my 71 (and other non mopars). I don't think the procedure is significantly different..... once you pull the wheel and free the switch from the top, you disconnect it from the car harness underneath the dash. Then, you bend the wires 90 degrees at the connecter, so the connecter is now parallel to the wires. Once you do this, you can slip it into the steering column and while pulling on the switch from the top, you pull it out. Follow procedure in reverse to install.
