Need to replace my rocker arms as several are loose making it impossible to adjust the valve lash.
What is the best way to get lash in the ballpark when you install the new parts, so I can start it to adjust the lash properly?

Checking threads here, it looks like "Rocker Arms Unlimited" is my best bet.

I just set them to an extra 0.005" lash cold. Haven't started the engine yet, would be interested to hear if that may not be enough.

Usually I do 0.002" looser cold and then readjust after driving around for a while and when engine is nice and warm.

I set mine dead cold always. As far as lash numbers, I usually add .001 or .002. On my Valiant motor the cam is unknown, so I just pulled a number out of my butt.

It's not that big of a deal to set warm and running, like some make it out to be/// I'm guessing those who make a big deal about doing the lash adjustment, are mostly people who have never done it before. I've done this many times over the years. But yeah I do get the idea of wanting a close starting point to get the engine warmed up, etc.
But definitely not anything to be afraid about
I've had them start out being many turns out of whack upon starting to do the adjustment. Always seem to start out way too loose. Mostly on engines with relatively high mileage and minimum maintenance over the years.

I will get to do it again soon once I get my fresh engine swapped in.

A few months ago, I put adjustable, higher ratio roller rockers onto the 360 magnum in my Durango. I tried the EOIC method everyone talks about, I had trouble, as in had many over adjusted, "lost" compression, and it wouldn't start.
I backed them all off a couple of turns, engine started right up, and I adjusted those while running. So much easier. For me anyway.

Try to adjust my motor when running.
