Hello All, Do the Clifford Shorties Fit on a 170?

I would think there is going to be Steering Box / Starter and possibly interference.

Are there any other current options other than Dutra Duals?

Thanks,

Greg

Clifford shorties do not fit the 170 as built. The front collector hits the steering box. But they can be made to fit. What I do is cut a "fishmouth" notch in the front three pipes. Then heat the metal opposite the cut, and bend the pipes to raise the collector. Then reweld the pipes. This is for manual steering, With power steering, I think you would have to totally rework the front section.
I have these headers on my 66 Valiant 170 engine. Acording to Aussie Speed they will fit both the 170 and 225 in the early "A" body, I have not tried them on a 225 as yet. On the 170 they hang pretty low, so you need to be carefull. I don't think I would use them on a street car.

Thanks Charrlie, that is pretty much what I thought.

The Early A Long tubes Through the K Frame and under the Control arm suck. I have a (clifford) set of that design from the 60's that I Munched up a while back - For what I need they would be unacceptable. as they need a pretty high ride height, with a tall tire and they still hit curbs and the road if you don't drive like mu mom.

I Probably will have to build my own Front set or use Dutra Duals.

So the Clifford Shorties Rear Section do work on the 170 As built and designed?

Thank you,
Greg

Yes, At least on the early "A's". I would guess they would also work on a 67 up "A" also.

I cannot imagine any real difference in this area as it applies to the rear header design.. 67-76 would just have more space to the Frame rail I would guess.
