10am and I was driving a back road, 40mhp, when the engine shut off without warning. Fast as it did it came back on. I didn't restart it, was just running again. Actually though I imagined it. Pull over, checked for anything obvious. Nothing. Drove home no problem. 12 days later it happened again but didn't fire back up. All other electrical was functioning fine. 'Strange kind of woman' by DP was still blasting loud. Pull over. Cranked the starter, turned over, no start. Plenty of fuel thru the squirters(SP). Pulled cap, rotor, disconnected/reconnected coil & plug wires and checked grounds. Got it running and eased home. At home while running I grabbed a wood dowel and started poking wires. When I got to the coil + wire, it shut off. Caveat, I did touch the coil to dist wire at same time. Reinspected the wires, terminals and connectors. It all looked fine. Started right up. Tried to recreate problem but it kept running. Could it be the coil going/gone bad? Cap, rotor, ECU, voltage regulator, a wire short somewhere unseen? After doing some research here, I ordered the recommended cap and rotor. Guess it's time to HEI up-grade.

Pulled plugs just to check. This one is #6 cylinder. NGK Iridium BKR6EIX

This is sounding like a loose wire or damaged terminal on the coil power wire.

Excuse delayed reply. Yes Mr. Mad you are correct. When I removing the coil, the - side nut was stripped. It just spun on the terminal. The + post snapped off while removing nut. It was a Napa brand part. Musta got a bad one. My buddy had a Pertronix flamethrower 1.5 ohm coil still in box. Slapped it on and started it up. Adj the timing and idle mix. Took it out for a long ride, engine is running smoother and stronger than ever.
