I have a 170 motor in my Lancer Suburban (station wagon) that has a Zenith Electronic Ignition fitted which is at the end of life stage, a greasy black liquid is dripping from it. I have a new electronic ignition for a 225, my question is will the the 225 distributer fit in the 170 motor. I have checked the part numbers for the 225 motor the number is 2095976 and the 170 with automatic transmission the part number is 2098533. Thanks in advance, Syd Coomes.

Hi Syd,

Yes, your 225 distributor will fit into your 170 engine. The differences between part numbers is from different vacuum advance and mechanical advance setups ("curves") between the two factory distributors. You may want to tweak your advance settings inside the distributor to better match the 170 internal specs at some point, but it will most likely run OK with what is in the new distributor. Can you tell us what is the "new ignition" you have? Brand, coil, ECU, etc...?

Thanks,
Lou

Yes, all Slant-6 distributors fit all Slant-6 engines. The advance curves will differ; this may make things a little better, a little worse, or not change them at all.

Tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this post.
