Does Rockauto List incorrect ones?

I believe there are 2 versions of this seal. The later ones may be used with the large bolt pattern 7 1/4 on the fjm cars for example.

I bet Dan or Charrlie can help.

'60-'62: one size of axle bearing and seal in the 7-1/4" rear axle
'63-up: another size.

Original P/N for the '60-'62 seal is 2070 130. That crosses to National 51256. I'm finding a lot of hits on both those numbers with a web search, and with an eBay search.

I am not at all shocked if the ashes of what used to be the auto parts sector lists the '63-up parts for Valiants and Darts clear back to 1954, or just lists completely inapplicable parts for all Valiants and Darts from 1937 through 1991.

Thank you Dan.

That listed seal is not in the RockAuto Listing for the '62 Valiant.

There are 2 seals listed - one for Sure Grip and one without?

I would not have imagined that the sure-grip option would have affected the Axle seal ID or Bore Ø.

National 51256 is possibly just available as NOS - I cannont seem to find "new" versions of the seal.

But as Dan says they are out there to buy.

I am shocked. Shocked, I am. Just try to imagine all of my considerable shock and surprise.

…which is a neat trick, given that Sure Grip was not available on that car.

Quite correct, on cars that could actually have come with Sure-Grip, such as the '64-up A-bodies. So yeah, as I was saying about what remains of the auto parts sector.

Here y'go, nice fresh brand-new seals. The price equates to $22.14/pair in US Dollars, but that's before postage and tariffs. Still, it might be worth it to eliminate the uncertainty of whether 50-60-year-old seals will still seal. And you'd probably be able to get a number off the new ones to buy them more locally next time. On the other-other hand, you might discover that they are a fine product of some joker in a dirt-floor Guangdong basement, thus differently iffy than the old-stock seals, but equally so

Thanks, Dan!
I suppose there is no Timken equivalent cross-reference to the national seal number.

I also was unaware that the Sure guip was not available in a 7 1/4" axle until 1964. But it does confirm my observation of one in a 1964 Dart that Dad has had rotting away in the back of the shop since 1990 or so.
