Good to know it was that big of a change. It may not make the car faster overall, but it will make the low/midrange and idle better. May not matter depending on your converter stall.

0.032" should not hurt it.

I drove the car to work a day last week and it feels soooo good! I can't believe how it pulls. Oops! I forgot I still have the 4.89 gears in it from last fall at Knoxville. :D :D That's why it feels so fast! Still wish I could get a "good weather" run with these gear in. I feel certain I could get into the 7's in the 1/8 mile. It has gone 8.0 with 4.30 gears. Guess another gear change is in my near future!

Your 2 Mile Jaunt from Buttermik to Quincy should be fun!

Best of Luck, and See you in May!

I've been 8.02 with 4.86 gears. I think with some tuning I can get to 7.80s.

See anything different about #6 cylinder? Yes I had a rocker arm lock nut come loose and then the push rod fell out. Basically finished the run on 5 cylinders! :D I pulled the pushrod and the lifter and both looked great. Dropped the lifter back in and set the valve lash, then fired her up. All sounded well. So that was good news. If I would just have had 10 or 15 minutes I would have fixed it and made the Semi rd. Or I may have had a bye into the final. (Only 3 cars left) But didn't want to chance it.

Car had 4.56 gears in it so I knew the mph would be off a little. Plus the weather was about 100% rain in the air all afternoon :D :D

Car ran: 13:01 / 101.03
----------13.01 / 101.28
----------13.03 / 101.40
----------13.07 / 101.58

Glad to hear it was simple! Are those factory adjuster screws? Hard to see. If so, you might need shorter pushrods.

Quick Fix! Great.

I thought it would be something simple as you kind of thought, as when you pulled it up on the trailer it did not sound catastrophic to me.

Lou, Rick swapped out to non stock adjuster screws, so the locknut/ jamnut is required.

With the demise of our racing series, I have decided to remove the noisey Carter electric fuel pump so I can run the car on the street and still hear myself think. Dan gave us a nice way to get a high volume low pressure fuel pump but that involved a lot of extra work and special parts....etc. Since all the new slant 6 fuel pumps are basically made of tin foil, I purchased a old AC fuel pump for a 1966 engine. Part #6972. It is obviously built twice as strong as the new junk! So I thought I would bolt it on and try it first and see just how it worked. And since I have a fuel pressure regulator on the car already it was worth a try. I bought a couple AN fittings to bypass around the rear mounted electric pump ( I left it in place) and then mounted the new fuel pump and filter up front and tied into my existing fuel line. Fired everything up and it sat there and ran with 3.75# and never waivered. I ran it up to 4000 rpm and things were still rock solid. I took it out for a run and ran it up to 6300 rpm and it never missed a beat. So I think this old "stock" fuel pump will be just fine. :D :D

Next up will be to get the full exhaust system installed out the back. Already have the Magna Flow mounted and it sounds much better than what I had on it. More to come. :D :D
