Found this in the first box of bearings that i opened. Got it from a speed shop in Michigan. Reached out, hope to hear back soon.

Some of the bigger bumps are taller than 2thou. This on both sides of this shell half.

Should i try to hone them or try to send them back? Found another but not as bad as this one.

That could be delamination of the bearing surface material from the steel shell. I would not run it, and I run a lot of junky stuff... Not worth your time to take the engine back apart when the rest of the surface could peel off, IMHO. Bearings are pretty cheap on Ebay or from Rockauto. The seller should replace it, if they are a serious person.

I had a set like that a few years ago. Still have them somewhere, didn't use them. As I remember they were "TRW" brand, and just a couple (not the whole set) look like that. I put up a similar post and pic as you have, at the time here.

Yes these are trw. Actually 2 sets of shells like this in the box.

If they don't look like new, perfect bearings, they need to be returned for a refund or chucked into the nearest recycle bin.

With mine the box said TRW but the actual bearings were stamped with some brand that started with a "V"
I forgot now exactly what it was but later I saw something in an article I read about that "V" name/ and that they were out of England.
I ordered another set of the same bearings from the same place and the 2nd set (which is in my engine now) wasn't marked with this "V" company and they were just fine. If I remember next time I get up there into the attic I'll dig that first set out and look at the name on the bearings.
I sent pix to the place I got them from and they said " they have a warehouse full of engine bearings and sell a lot of them to local (Texas I think) engine shops and never get a complaint. Some may be tarnished from long shelf life but that doesn't hurt anything". For what those bearings cost me and the overall small percentage of the price of my build it wasn't much, I didn't want to chance it, and the price wasn't worth making noise about. So I just went with the 2nd set of bearings that id bought and didn't think much about it after that

I have had Vandervell Bearings before. They could be reboxed as Federal Mogul or trw etc.

I've had no problems with them.

Not saying the brand is bad but that's the only set of those brand bearings I've ever bought.... I think it's more of a "been on the shelf too long" thing than " bad brand" thing
