This is a 1966 Dart 270 with 2BBL 273 V8. This factory A/C car has power steering, very straight sheet metal, little to no rust, all glass intact, lots of nice chrome, and good cloth headliner.

Here's what I need from you guys....
Is there much of a market for these cars in this condition? In your experience, what is a good average price for one in very good shape that's running? At first glance, the only problems I see that need to be addressed is the carpet, dash pad, and upholstery need replaced, and a little body/paint work on a previously replaced quarter panel.

I know these type questions are very subjective, but I have no experience with these older models. They could go for $300 or $5000 and I wouldn't know the difference.

I suggest you get under that thing somehow and check the floors and framing members for rust. I realize Texas isn't exactly a state where that would be a big problem, but you don't really know where the car originated, do you? Check the trunk floor and spare tire well, too.

Get back to us on that. Otherwise, it looks great from the outside.

We did take a quick peek in the trunk and it didn't seem to have much more than a little surface rust in spots. I did not pull up the mat more than enough to see that it had a spare tire in the well. The car is a Windsor, ONT, CAN made car, but was owned by a "little old lady" in Cameron, Texas, until she passed away and the car was sold in her estate auction. I'm finding out more about the car this evening.

I'm not sure if I'm trying to talk myself into buying the car, or talk myself out of buying the car. It's one of those things that just came up out of nowhere, and I wasn't really looking for it. I tend to lean more towards the muscle car styles than the "Granny Grit" 4-door sedans. But I'm also not one for looking a gift horse in the mouth. I think I need to resolve the question of its running condition and go from there.

See, I made a decision.... or did I? :?

To be honest, I don't think there is much of a market for 66 dart sedans. Even the GT models in the early years don't fetch much money. if you are looking at this purchase as an investment you probably will never see a profit if you pay much more than $1750, no matter what condition it is in.

That being said, that car looks like it is in VERY good shape and would make a very easy restoration or sleeper street rod. If you can scam the seller into a price like $300 ("Cause you know there's just not much of a market for these old cars, and it probably needs a total engine and trannt rebuild...") I would snatch it up. I think a fair price for a good condition 66 dart sedan with a 273 and working A/C would be in the $1500-2000 range.

that is a nice car, i like the '66 Dart, i think the front is the best looking of the early Darts..

try to get it for under a grand and it's a deal... good to go for resale would be like Reed said, about $1500-2000, maybe $2500 if it's really super, or even $3000 with a new paint job and rally rims... (although some buyers prefer not to have any paint jobs done, i don't like a fresh cover up.. depends on who's buying it..)

i paid $2500 for my '64 Valiant, should have gotten it for a little less, but the body was in great shape with 59k on it... no rust anywhere underneath... that's the pain in the @** stuff to fix ...

This is how we took care of a "little rust problem" on my son's Dart Sport.

Seriously, this little Dart 270 is starting to get under my skin. It's just soooo
"cute". Would make a great sleeper with a few mods.

The 4 doors will never be as collectable. :(

Great looking car! :D Personally I wouldn't go over $600-$700, but I'm not looking for another car. :wink:
