I am reinstalling the original windshield with a new gasket on my 76 D100.

Factory service manual says to use no lubricant but mineral spirits, but I have never heard of using mineral spirits to install a windshield and I am wondering if anyone is aware of a better product currently on the market to ease windshield installation.

Any suggestions?

Maybe the same stuff that tire busters use?

Possibly, but that stuff is *messy.* I am hoping for a product that can go in a spray bottle, such as dish soap, although I have read warnings against using dish shop because it leaves salts on the paint that will degrade things over time.

I might just try some vaseline, although i have read that is not good, either.

I might be tempted to use silicone spray.
Or I might be tempted to follow the FSM instrux and use mineral spirits.

Question (although probably the "opposite" question to Reed) along similar lines... I have a few good OEM windshields for these trucks in the attic. Who makes the best gaskets/ seals for all the glass in a D150 cab?
I need 2 windshield gaskets, actually need every piece of rubber made for an 80s 2 door conventional cab for one of them.

Yes, I know, I will probably go with mineral spirits.

I used dawn dish detergent in a spray bottle on my car. Worked fine and dandy. No way I'm using mineral spirits around brand new paint jobs. I know how that would end for me!
