is there a easy way to see if my alt has output on my 65 without removal . i have a cheap china multimeter . thnx. hoping to find my charging problem . fighting the temptation to go with one wire gm !

Start with a warmed-up engine – this is important.

Remove the field wire from the alternator. Connect a jumper wire from the field terminal (on the alternator) to the alternator's output stud. Start the engine and see if your line voltage rises above what it was with the engine switched off. Do not let it rev much above curb idle (which is why you don't do this with a cold engine), because if you do, the alternator (if it's working) will put out enough voltage to cause damage.

Be very careful with any kind of alternator upgrade; see here.
