I found some old O.E. wide contact distributor caps for the slant 6.
Can the caps be cleaned or lightly bead blasted inside to clean up any soot on the terminals?

Or is this a bad Idea?

Thanks sages!

What would you use for blast media? Been experimenting with different things in my cabinet myself. .big difference for example between black beauty and glass beads ..
If I did what you're asking id use as low a pressure as I could...

If they are not cracked, I would not see why not? I would probably use a small dremel with the fine wire wheel before I would blast them. Even just sand paper by hand should work fine.

I've seen as much problem on that style of cap (not just on /6s) with corrosion in the terminals on top as I have in the rotor contact side. Now on something like that I doubt the Dremel would do much good

Personally, the few times I have removed material from caps or rotors, ignition/running has degraded. If they are new not used, then fine sandpaper or very light blasting would be my vote. If old/worn...?

Perhaps a good score! I have a few left I've found on ebay. Hopefully enough to last til I'm dead.

This is a relatively slow and costly way to finish ruining a distributor cap that was already done.

Just buy a new one. If you like the wide-contact kind, they still go by on eBay from time to time. Otherwise just buy the best-available narrow-contact kind and put together a wide-contact rotor as described in this thread.
