Putting a 4 speed in my 1970 198ci Barracuda.

I have a 5.125 inch hole in my bellhousing and a 4.354 diameter front bearing retainer.

Who makes adapters and or what other suggestions do you have short of swapping the internals into an OD case. I wouldn't mind except I do not have an OD case to work with.

Thanks

Mike Andreas swapped a late 3spd bearing retainer, 5.125" OD, onto an 833 4spd case. He got the info and part from Wildcat Mopars on Oregon.

If you're still looking, I have a bearing retainer with the 5.125" outer circle like an OD bellhousing and a 3.7" bolt circle like the early transmission. It came from some 3 speed mopar. I can give you the casting number. I got it form Wildcat MOPAR in Or. I think any of the guys can help you. I talked to a guy named Dennis. I'd like to find out what it is. I'd like to have another one as a spare

It's from a 1975+ A-230 3 speed box...

When mopar went to the OD A-833 they had to increase the size of the front hole for gear cluster insertion, thus putting the bigger bearing and retainer in that box, but now the bean counters don't want to 're-tool' the machining process for the A-230 three speed box that has the old retainer size...and they want to throw out the 3spd only bellhousing and stick to one universal housing, but now the retainer for the 4 speeds is to big...answer: machine the retainer to fit the small bearing and larger retainer hole...

FYI,
