Will a 727 transmission bolt up to a 63 to 66 Dart without modification of the floor pan?

Will it use the same mounting bracket as the A904?

In the case of my '63 the answer is no Walt, I had to have the tunnel reworked. Nothing drastic, but modified never the less. I've run the 904/999 series in my bracket cars for years with no problems. Now on the other hand, converters are another story............ Anyway, spend the money on a good converter, a GOOD cooler and a deep transmission pan, if this is a street/strip or race type vehicle. RICK

about your mount question, to the best of my knowledge adn experience they are interchangeable. I've had no problems using mounts from the auto's or manuals from '65 to'76.

What's involved to modify the floorpan? A couple whacks with a hammer? Or is it more involved.

The reason I ask about this, is that I'm serious about putting a Gear Vendors Overdrive in my 63 Dart. To keep the pushbuttons, I either need to use an adaptor from Imperial Services (Layson's also carries this unit) (the adaptor allows use of a linkage A904 with push buttons), or install a 1966 truck 727 that has both the cables and the splined tail housing.

The Imperial Services adaptor requires modification of the park lever so it no longer operates the buttons when put into the park position. I'd prefer to forgo this modification, thus my interest in the 727.

The A727 was available in slant A-bodies in 1966, but I don't know about earlier. It was in the police and taxi package and included the bellhousing and torque converter adapters to allow use of the V8 transmission.

I'd love to get some information on adding to my 904 some sort of OD device... would you guys cough some internet adress? thanks! juan

Hey Walt ! I might have been talking out of school on that 727 in an early A-body. I remembered that my 63 had the floor all cobbled up from the previous owner and I had a new tunnel ( a '74 Dart as I found out from the old junkyard reciept ) welded in by a first class repair shop. A cool suggestion: try to borrow a bare LA engine block and an empty 727 and dry fit everything. My foolproof receipe is cold sodas, some pizza, a decent football game on the radio (or the Nextel race), an engine hoist (of course) and a couple of friends. "Bout an hour to hour and a half. For our good neighbor south of the Equator in The Argentine, I think there was a A-500 swap into an older Mopar in one of the Mopar specific magazine a few years back, and since I kept ALL of mine, it may take some time to locate the one we need. Thanks! I understood from walt's lines that there's some sort of manufacturer who makes units for adding to the old 904 to make it overdrive. Yeah, get a job, huh? I made a fool outta myself again.

Gear Vendors makes a bolt on overdrive unit for the A904. It is expensive.
