I'm looking to replace my driveshaft with the original CV boot. Anyone know where I can get an original with a CV boot to replace it or get it worked so I don't have to replace it with a new state of the art crap.

another member used state-of-the-art cv joint boot, not sure which parts store but they had a similar sized one. Otherwise you are at the mercy of E-bay, they usually sell in a complete kit for $95+. Good Luck

Anyone know what danger there is running the car with a damaged boot?
Also, if I install a '73 8 1/4 sure grip, do I need to change the driveshaft?

1. A damaged boot will allow the ball-and-trunion grease to become contaminated and eventually fail.
2. The 8 1/4 differential is different in length from the axle centerline to the yoke. You'll need to have the driveshaft shortened. That might be a good time to have a driveshaft made to eliminate the B&T with a U-joint. See http://www.earlycuda.org/tech/ujoint.htm

The BT boot should be available from any good driveline shop. Spicer stills make rebuild kits for the BT.

thanks for the info. How about getting a '73 driveshaft for the "spicer type" conversion? Would that save any time or money?
