aloha all just started on a project , putting a blower in a 71 valiant so i want to make sure the rear end goes in a sraight line ? can anyone tell me how to work out what the rear end is , i think plymouth called it sure grip ? how do i find out what size the end is and if it is posi ?
hope someone can help , im just in the process of building the blower manifold and hooking up a double pumper 650 holley , should turn some heads !!!!!!!!!!

Inspect the rearend to see if it has a rear cover or if there is a gear "carrier" that bolts-in fron the front.

If it has a cover on the back of the housing (most likely) then count the number of bolts, there should be 9. The most common rearend in a SL6 powered 71 Valiant is a 7 1/4. (ring gear size)

To check for a Sure Grip (Posi) jack the car up so both rear wheels are in the air and spin the rear wheels by hand, a Sure Grip will make both tires spin in the same direction. With the engine off and in "Park", e-brake off, if you spin the rear tires and they go in opposit directions, it's an "open" rear end.

they dont have posi for 7-1/4 do they? so would it be cheaper to rebuild a 7-1/4 or try and find a decent beast 8(dont remember size)

IMHO it would be a waste of time and money to rebuild a 7 1/4" rear if you are going to be putting that kind of power to it, even with a suregrip that ring gear is still small. find your self a nice 8 1/4 or better yet 8 3/4 and rebuild that. It will hold up MUCH better and an 8 3/4 makes gear swaping much easier.
