hi, we started working on our newst project, a 64 a100 pickup, we learned before(on the 67 dart gt)that before starting a motor thats been sitting a long time to spray down the valve springs, etc, with carb cleaner and wd40 or liquid wrench, we sprayed them all down and started tapping them with a hammer, all are loose except one, it has been sitting at least since we moved to town(almost 15 years) although the plates are from 77, the stuck one comes up when you pry on it and goes back down when you tap it and it stays, should it free up if we keep tapping it down and prying it back up? thanks

It isn't the spring thats stuck, but the valve stem thats rusted in its guide and the spring isn't strong enuf to pull it back up. Keep spraying and tapping, it'll work loose. I'd work on the others too, as they probably aren't as free as they oughtta be. Be careful not to hit too hard or off square, as you could dislodge the keepers and have them, along with the spring and the retainer flying. Once you get em all somewhat moving, theyll free up the rest of the way once the engine gets running and that head gets warm. Everything will expand and a constant flow of oil from the oil pump will help too. DON'T hammer directly on the stem!!! Hold a hammer on the end of the valve and hit the 1st hammer with another. Youll be less likely to damage that valve that way. Especially if the hit on the valve isn't square on. The 2nd hammer will help you keep the contact square and avoid either mushrooming the end of the stem or dislodging those keepers.

yeah, knew it wasnt the actual spring, lol...we got it back up and pulled the pushrod out and put in a starter, motor wont turn, starter is good we messed with the shifter while rolling down a very gradual hill and it appears that the whole thing is locked up...so, anyone in the midwest got a freemoving slant out of a car waiting for a new ride?

If you will just swap engines, why dont try to free this one up first?
just fill it with lightweight oil, till it runs over.
put some penetrating oil in the cylinders, wait a while, and try to get it moving. Put it in high gear and move the car to put some force in it.
It may run good for a long time...
