Rubber bushings are encased in a metal sleeve that has a flange on one end and is swaged (crimped) on the other end to prevent it from slipping out of the mount. Last year, we removed the bushings from the mounts for Aaron's "Dartster". Instructions included with the new bushings I recently bought tell you to mark the side with the flange. About a year too late for that...
Can anyone tell me how the bushings are oriented in your original motor mounts? Are the flanges located outboard or inboard? This is for a '74 Dart Sport.

Man, I wish I could help ya - I'm at work right now. I have a 74 Scamp. I just replaced the whole motor mount. The cost difference was negligable, and a whole lot easier. I'll look when I get home (in about an hour) and see if anyone has been able to answer your question, though.

The one and only aftermarket mount I bought like that years ago for my 1975 Valiant had some arrows molded into the rubber and they had to point a certain direction according to the instruction sheet with it. However the instructions were not clear and I was not able to positively determing which way the arrows were to point.

Hmmm, what Craig said. I remember that I got the bushings before I just decided to replace the whole shebang, and IIRC the arrows were supposed to point towards the front of the car. Hope this helps.

The arrows on the mount I has could not now way point to front or rear. It was up or down or somethind like that. Had something do to with the way the rubber was designed to support the load???? But nothing to do with front or back. I'm thinking it makes no difference if the flange is to front or rear, but you can rotate the bushing to fit the oval shape in one of two orientations. Understand now? I wish there was an expert out there on this subject.

On my Duster, I placed the arrows facing toward the engine. Drivers side arrow points toward the motor and the passenger side arrow points up.

Why don't you just return the bushings and get new mounts? Thenyou don't have to worry about which way the arrows point. But be aware, the right and left side mounts are different. Of course, I cannot see the arrows on mine. Sorry.
