 Post subject: Plug Gap
PostPosted: Mon Feb 21, 2005 9:29 am
I have a Pretronix ignition and my current plugs are gapped at 50. I picked a set of splitfire plugs on ebay for $10. My brother, who drives a Ford, said the plugs should be gapped at 65. What's do some of you experts suggest?

Thanks

Suggest you return the sh(pl)itfires and put non-gimmick spark plugs of the correct heat range in.

0.050" is a really big spark plug gap. There's no reason to go bigger, and doing so will greatly increase wear on all secondary ignition components (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil), while at the same time making misfiring much more likely.

I agree with Dan,loose the slitfires.I like the autolites, with the stock gap.If you have a msd 6a or 6al ign, then you can experiment with the gap. They recomended increasing the gap by .005"-.010" until the best perf is found.
