As promised I have posted pics of our Scamp. With all your help it's on the road and reliable. This car is a daily driver for my son who is a senior in High School. He and I rebuilt this car. It was in terrible shape when I got it and we decided to go with custom colors and slightly built motor. I'm new at posting pics so I hope this works. I'm putting together an online album which I'll link to in a later post.












We still have more to do. like getting the AC working and some cleanup in the engine compartment.

Specs are 225 bored .040 over, Isky 264 cam, .060 off the head, stock valves, ported and polished head, Holley 5200 carb, lokar shift cable, 904 rebuilt tranny, 8 1/4 321 SG rear, disc brake conversion LBP 15 inch 225 tires.

Started it in December 2003 when my buddy gave it to me for free. I have spent close to 10k on the project spread out over the last year. The car probably will never be worth that much on the market but the money spent wasn't the point. I wanted to have quality time with my son and have him learn about automobiles and how they work. It was well worth it. The paint was about 3000 including a bunch of body work. The engine we spent 2800 just in machining and new parts. My son and I did the assembly. The rest of the cost was tranny rebuild, junkyard parts for the disc brakes, new rubber for complete front end rebuild and of course the interior which my wife did the upholstery. There was a bunch of incidental costs which I have all the receipts but too many things to mention here. And of course a bunch of new tools. Needless to say he is extremely proud of this car. I have dozens of pictures documenting the process and I hope to get them in a scrap book soon.

Its the different "levels" of posting here if you're not a board contributor/sponsor. It just is a reflection of how much you post.

On a side note--Did you find the project to better your relationship with your son? I can't really see my dad and I doing something like that when I was that age, and I think I really would have wanted to. I'm glad he's proud of it--that's great!

PS--I've spent about $100 on the wagon project, including the offroad tires. He wants to paint some fancy stripes on there next...but I'm holding off until it warms up

Definitely improved our relationship. We listened to tunes in the garage, went to junk yards togehter, laughed it up as much as possible. We both really enjoyed it. We worked at our own pace and took our time. He had another beater to drive so there was no hurry. I did a lot of the work by myself because he's a busy kid and I didn't want to completely bog him down in all the details. But he was with me most of the way, from torqueing the mains to adjusting valves, removing and reinstalling the dashboard. Quite fun. There were times when I had to drag his butt out of bed to hit the junkyards on a Saturday or two. One of the best moments was when we were cruising through a local U-pull and found a 3.21 SG rear in an Aspen. His eyes lit up on that one and we spent 2 hours getting it out of the car. Got it for 50 bucks. We had to weld on new perches and paint it but it drives real nice. He also loves the stereo as you would expect of a teenager these days.

I love these posts about father-son projects!

It seems like just a couple months ago when textoad was looking for an engine stand.

I hope when I start my father-son projects with my boys we will be able to make progress like textoad, Jerry and Aaron with the Dartster, etc.

NewLancerMan and I will have our turn soon enough!
