I'll check for manufacturer's table of speficications. I can e-mail you the pattern I created for cutting the stuff. Why don't you ask for plain delrin, is gonna be as good as grilon for this purpose. I just used grilon 'cuz I had it lying there among my materials.

What type of supplier are you guys shopping with that would have these products? Apparently, you don't find it at Wal-mart. I would also like to ask around to see if I can find some locally.

Gracias Ché, it would be great if you send me the pattern... as far as using Delrin, it is good news... everybody carries it and I can get some cut left overs and wouldn't be expensive. Saludos compadre.

Jerry: Look on plastic dealers, any business specialized in plastic will carry it... there is a place in San Antonio called Laird Plastics, they're on Walzem Rd... call them, I believe they had a branch in the Austin area, not sure. Maybe they can give you a local option near Troy or Waco. Their Ph. in SA is 210/657-6001

Will do, Ed. Come to think of it, there is a machine shop here in Temple called H&H Plastics. They also do plastic injection molding and such. The old man who ran the place used to make his own reproduction taillight lenses, dash control knobs, and accelerator pedal pads for an Austin Healy he restored. I'll check with them, too.

This is why I dont shop at big-box retail stores when I have a special problem to solve. If you need anything garage related or even something you would normally find at a hardware store, chances are that there's a Brafasco, Acklands Grainger or Westburne/Nedco that has the same thing, at the same price, and you can actually have an intelligent conversation with the guy at the counter about it. They could have it right on the shelf, order it overnight, or direct you to some obscure specialty shop filled with wonders youve never dreamed of. Plus I find new products on display on the shop floor almost every time I visit one. This is where I discovered DowCorning 33 silicone grease, Plastic Surgery compound, cold galvanising compound, black urethane sealant, spray welders, and the ultimate rust preventive and lubricant---BoeShield T-9.

This stuff is perfect for any mechanism you want to grease but sand and dirt keeps sticking to it. It is also PERFECT for coating the chrome doorhandles, emblems and bumpers on your car to keep it from pitting. Every once in awhile some product comes along, kicks incomprehensible amounts of ass, and nobody notices because big-box purchasing managers are too stupid to understand what it does. Im telling you; go to an industrial supply store some day.

Yep, you're right, we have a saying in Mexico that goes: "Zapatero, a tus zapatos" it literally means "Shoemaker, to your shoes" or like "The cobbler should stick at his last" (not sure about the last one... ). Anyways, you get the picture...

For any car thing I need I rather go to the furthest Autozone in town than to the closest WalMart. (Even though WalMart sometimes is cheaper). We have a huge Grainger in town, never been there... will pay them a visit soon.

My searches for Zytel and Grilon are mostly for manufacturers sites without means of purchasing that I can find. Grilon is specifically known as 'polyamide 6-6/6 (PA6-66) nylon 6 66 copolymer'.

Yep, that's the deal. I read somewhere in this post "fiberglass reinforced zytel" wich ain't correct. Grilon is an specific compound.

I used Grilon since I suspected my manifold to be slightly warped, and since grilon is softer I thought it's gonna go along with 2 diffrent surfaces better }than delrin

2 tips:

use wooden bits for drilling it (Yes, the large flat type for the throat hole) and remove or mold anything you want with a stone grinder rather than a sander. Never sand, it's gonna stick and melt. You can use a bench saw to cut it an LOW speed almost NO pressure. It's gonna grab and break the blade as soon as you put pressure on it)
