This may be a dumb question, but is there any reason why I can't leave the rear pulley off (the one behind the harmonic balancer)? I don't have A/C and don't need the pulley. I assume it won't affect the balance, but I don't know if it's used to keep dirt away from the front seal or if it serves another purpose. Thanks!

If you don't need it to drive anything, there is no reason you can't take it off.
