Y'all are going to love this. I was talking with wife Christine about the racing (she's been to a few), and she had great idea to encourage new and up'n'coming racers.

Why not have a "most improved" racer of the year?

This would just entail someone running in two or more races and making improvements, either in ETs or in consistency. The prize, which my home team is willing to sponsor, would be $100. I am open to others who want to chip into a pot for this prize. This would not be limited to rookies, but is unlikely to go to an old hand who has his car/self dialed in.

We could set it up in various ways.

1) Have the main racers (anyone who, say, made 4 or more races last year) give a vote (or two) for their "most improved" racer(s). This would be a fairly subjective, but probably fair and simple way to do it.

2) Christine and I could tally up round wins, ET/RT "package" stats and such, and come up with a score for everyone. We'd have to think about this system...

Any thoughts?

Lou

That's a mighty generous offer, and I can see how it would almost surely go to a beginner.

As a beginner, it appeals to me. Only other prize I hoped to win this year was rookie of the year. :)

I just hope I can actually make some improvement!

You mention rewarding improved consistency. Does that include consistently bad? :D
It sounds good to me, and I hope I can step it up a little this year.
I've already got too many yellow slips.

Don't know what's wrong, but I can't post as me. Anyway, last was me.

Hey Lou,
I had seen a post or two talking about the most improved racer. It wasn't an official recognition or anything, but I think Seymour mentioned Norm Foster in the newsletter or something.

I like this idea. It attracts new people and makes people want to attend more races to be able to show the improvement. It also encourages them to share their timeslip information. A lot of the time that seems to be a problem for the person gathering the stats. I remember Kay Hamby running around trying to gather all the information for the ladder.

If someone looses a round they tend to just file or throw away the time slip and not share the information. If the guy knows that even though he lost he made some improvements and their is an incentive for that improvement he will be much more likely to come looking for someone to show that timeslip to.

This is a great idea for me to incorporate into the GodsRods program with these young kids just getting into drag racing too.

Tell Christine she's got good ideas! :D

Rob

Charlie,

I would really like to make the Farmington race. It's about a 7 hour drive for me, but it's still one of the closer races. It would give me an early start on the season. I guess I'll push for it with my wife and see. I still have a lot of work to do between now and then.

Thanks for the input guys. Glad to see this might be a motivator already.

Any other comments on the "Most improved" idea??

Thanks,

Lou

Sounds like a good idea to me Lou. :D

I should be debuting a new driver at Clay City. (If her vacation schedule permits) I don't know if she'll drive enough races to qualify for most improved or not though.

If I let her loose with the joos she may be fastest newbie anyway.
