own a 69 dart gas gauge stop working, anyone ever have this happen, and how do i check this out?

Still with the problem, still working on it, sometimes my gauge starts working, but not good.

Check the contacts of the wires coming from the gas tank. They might be oxidized. Just guessing...

Already check anything from gas tank to gauge, I took to repair my gas gauge, but only worked well some days.

yep check the connecton at the tank and the groundind strap,if that doesnt work check the back of the cluster mine had some corrosion cleaned it up with a scotch brite pad and tightened up the nuts on the gauge and mine was up and running again

checked the wire at the tank, grounded it , gas gauge went to full, did i ground the gauge to long, shows no movement when i tryed the ground trick again, if so how do you removed the gauge from the dash, i'm wounding if i screwed up both the gauge and the sending unit in the tank, any HELP!

Well, looks like time and recent water leak finished with my gas gauge, so I buyed a new one, not original, I needed to put it below dash, anyone got a clock for dash? they use the same space in dash.

Grounding the wire at the tank shouldn't damage the guage, since its almost fully grounded when the sender is indicating a full tank anyway.

You may still have a wiring problem and moving the wire only temporarily made it work.

Tests to do:

1) measure the resistance of the sending unit with an ohmmeter

2) measure the voltage at the sending unit wire with the ignition switch on (should flip flop between 0 and 12 volts if you have a stock instrument cluster regulator)

3) Does your temperature guage work? If not, it may be the instrument cluster regulator that's bad.

thanks for the responds, temp gauge DOES work,i'll go over the test again, took the kick panel off, unpluged the plug, grounded the blue wire with a test light, but no needle movement, i just want to be sure one way or the other that the dash gas gauge is no good before trying to remove the instrument cluster

oh yea! is there a fuse i don't know about somewhere
