Typically, you can either adjust the kickdown rod at the lower end connecting to the transmission. If you have no adjustment left, I have sometimes had room to bend the rod a little to make it 'shorter'.

I've never had to open up the slot on a slide plate yet. I've used the Carter BBD and the Holley 2280 (might be what you have) on both my truck and my car with the same standard slide plate.

Yep, the kickdown lever down on the trans is different. Hooking the 2bbl kickdown rod to the 1bbl kickdown lever creates these kinds of problems.

Also, Holleys weren't OE on the 2bbl slant-6, so it's possible that the carb you got doesn't have the same linkage-attachment geometry, which can also spoil the correct interrelationships among all the pivots and rods.

I could not find out what kind of nut/bolt combination on the two setups I got a few months ago. The cars are still in the pull it lot.

I will have to make a return trip to get them. I looked in the shop manual and could not see any mention of what tools are needed to remove it.

So could someone shed some light on what tools are needed to pull off
this small lever so I could change mine when I do my swap?

I just did not have the needed joints to see what was needed. Especially when you are laying on your back in the dirt
