Check your engine mounts (left and right) and your trans mount (center rear).

If it's not the mounts go back and check the U-joints carefully, maybe even take them apart and look at them. I've known several vehicles where the U-joint shows little to no wear and has odd behaviors as you descrive but the U-joint is the culprit.

My old mopars go clunk too.
The rear ends have some slop someplace.
Also the tranny in my 76 Valiant engages hard into reverse every time.
Those clunk sounds are normal to me.

Other opinions anyone???

Your u joints may be fuctd

My car does that from time to time. Grease the whole driveshaft joints. Also, sometimes when you shift into R right after shifting outta D it clonks. Must have something to do whit rear end spinning (slightly) when you shift. My car also "clonks" when I spet on it and suddenly take my foot outta gas pedal right before 1-2nd shifting.

Check the reverse band adjustment. May be that or a reverse servo sticking in the bore and then releasing all at once.

Good advice. A too-loose Reverse band can make a surprisingly large amount of noise when it engages.

I'm willing to bet my white... my white... behind that we know each other since kinder.

I have spent like 10 minutes LOL in front of the screen. Good thing that the wife's on a trip or she'd turned me into a mental facility.

by the way, I have a rattle-rattle-rattle noise when trans is warmed up and in every gear but P. What can I point my laser beam at? 904 freshly rbuilt (actually it wasn't as bad as for a complete rebuilt, but I did it since I thought that I may cure the rattle in the process....) new flexplate new HD bolts OLD converter... shaft is fine, not even a single scratch.

Trans cooler lines hitting something, or trans mount.
