I've been searching info on distributor recurves. Most of it I don't understand. Is there a thread that has it all explained for a begginer? How do you know how much timing is built into the distributor? I'm just looking for some info so i can get a grasp on this stuff. Any suggestions on books to read?

I'm right in the middle of doing this............

I'll post results for my engine when I'm done. (centrifugal first)

What I'm doing is locking out the advance mechanism, then figuring out the max advance (without ping) at various rpm's (WOT). Then I'll try to match it with the springs (minus 2 degrees as a safety buffer).

Then I want to see what the max advance is at various rpm's and manifold vacuum and see if I can get a vacuum can to match that.......
