Before you get to confused about things you need to get some numbers to give you a proper road map on carb tuning, and you want to make sure you have your valves lashed properly/etc...

Just as an idea of how things were, with a nice ignition curve I've seen 22" at idle, 20-18" at cruise(stop light to stop light, light throttle) 18-15" at highway cruise(65-70 mph, typical I-5 Portland traffic), I don't think you'll see 8-10" at WOT under load...

Too bad I'm not home, I got a couple of good 1945's (can I say that!?!? Maybe I should say a couple that work fine.) on my carb cart in my garage...

Ah! Must be morning waaaay over there!

So by Holley's description, I should be running the -13.
I've got a 62 and a 63 main I can play with.
I'll put it together tomorrow morning and see what happens. Since I'm starting from a 61, which one would you recommend?
I did the valves about 1000 miles ago. That comes out to a couple of years, but who's counting. Don't have any issues with them, and I seem to remember my pilot vacuum coming up to 20" when I cracked the butterfly just a tad. It's all this fuzzy blur. After I get things back together I'll run a vacuum guage onto the dash.
I'm also going to take a look at my ignition circuit voltage drops. Never know. Maybe I'm chasing my tail.
I probably need a heavier spring on the advance. One thing at a time though.

If mixture continues to be problematical, I'll just get the BBD ready, and mount up those pretty Dutra Duals. It's way overdue anyhow. I don't have the equipment to bend pipe, so I'll have to trailer it up to my favorite exhaust guy. 2 1/2 inch?

 ???

OK! Much nicer in the middle of the pedal.
Used the -13 Power Valve, and the 63 Main Jet. I think I can commute a bit next week with the old girl. Don't remember it running that smooth.
As soon as the Alfa is back and paid for, I'll get into the Valiant, and start my conversion to the Super Six goodies, etc..

Thanks for all the input! :D:

I've got some new guages to stick in the dash that should communicate a better picture of what's going on. Gonna have to dig around for the vacuum guage. I know it's in my shop someplace.

Got back from a mad dash around the countryside, and noticed a pinhole in the Radiator top tank. Soon as it cools down, I'll break out the solder. May be time for a new one. Pretty sad looking.
