I have been calling my car the Mustard Duster. Because I am sometimes lazy, I find it easier to ask questions instead of researching. So, my car is a 74 and I would like to know what the true name of the paint is. I am going to be looking for a drivers door and if possible, get the same color. Paint will come later, probably a pastel yellow.

The original paint colour will be called out on the car's fender tag. The tag is located under the hood, usually on one of the inner fenders or atop the radiator support panel, and looks like this:

Sometimes, on high-option cars, there are two tags.

Carefully write down all the letters and numbers you find on the tag, being sure to keep the spacing correct and put them all in the right positions relative to one another. Post it here and I or someone else can decode it for you.

Hey Dan, he said he's sometimes lazy - maybe he'll never get around to writing the fender tag out. :P

Below is a color chart for 74 Plymouth's for a quick answer:

My son Aaron's '74 Dart Sport was that Y5 "Yellow Blaze". It is a rather subdued color, after 30 years. Now it will be "Viper Race Yellow", much brighter and in-your-face.

Rob said it, not much to add except Thanx. My wife says it is the Yellow Blaze, I thought Sunfire Yellow. But as is usually the case, she's right. BTW, Rob, Thankyou for your service.

If you want to know for sure look at the fender tag - if I remember correctly somewhere on there it should say BDY, and the code underneath it should be the color code - which should match one of the ones on the chart.

Well, sure, and thanks for posting the paint chip chart, but if he'll post the fender tag, he can learn all sorts of interesting things about his car, not just the original paint color.

That's true, and you can also get more information by finding the build sheet. If he's interested in additional information he can still post his fender tag information.

If anybody is interested, you can view other color charts at AutoColorLibrary.com.
