I'm in the middle of converting from the 3spd on the column to a 833OD. I've just discovered that the bracket that attaches to the bellhousing and supports one end of the z-bar puts the ball stud in the wrong place with respect to the ball stud on the frame. I've got all of the pieces from the donor (Feather Duster) and all the pieces from the 3spd so I wasn't anticipating an instance where neither car's part would fit.

The old bellhousing has two holes for the bracket parallel to the ground and positions the ball stud just in back of the bellhousing. The overdrive bellhousing has the bracket holes perpendicular to the ground and with the Duster bracket positions the ball stud about an inch and a half in front of the bellhousing.

Has anybody done this swap and know the solution?

The bellhousings changed around '67. As you found out, one of the changes is where the ball stud mounts onto the bellhousing. The only fix that I know of, is to make a new ball stud mount. Once you do that, your '64 z-bar should work. You will also need to make a longer rod for the throwout bearing lever and the lower lever on the z-bar.

Another alternative is to have the '64 bellhousing machined to accept the A833OD.
