Just wondering (rough is fine) what the temperatures are on my temp gauge.............

Gauge is for 64 Valiant.....

Lower Bar of 'normal' range is at about 3/8
Upper Bar of 'normal' range is at about 7/8

and with a working 180 thermostat (seems to have just failed, and why I'm curious) it would always run within a needle width of the middle line.

Since no one seems to know the approximate temperatures of the bars on the temp gauge.........


I don't think anyone would know what the resistance (in ohms) of the temperature sending unit is either...........

The bottom line is about 120ºF, the left side of "normal" range is about 170ºF, top of normal range is about 230ºF, and top (most right) line is about 250ºF. Right in the middle (straight up) is about 200ºF.

I found that, but my gauge doesn't look like that.......

The bottom line is at 3/8 rather than the 1/4 shown;

and the top line is at 7/8 rather thant the 3/4 shown.....

Actually, I calibrated a sensor in ohms vs. temp and then calibrated the guage to ohms years ago.

The down side is that I have NO idea where that data is right now- somewhere buried in my big file of car information (pre-computer).

I do remember that for this particular guage and sensor (from my '69 Coronet R/T's 440) the left "inner" mark on the guage was about 185, dead center on the guage was about 200-205, and the right inner bar was somewhere around 215 or 220 (all Farenheit). This was also done after putting in an electronic 5V cluster regulator in place of the original thermal regulator.

Only way to find out is with a thermometer in the top tank vs. an eye on the temp gauge!

Craig's TSB doesn't apply to your '64, since '76 temp gauges were calibrated for 195° thermostats. This was the second recalibration; the first was for '64 (the '60-'63 gauges and senders use a different temp/resistance curve).
