Sometimes the truth stings. A 2bbl carb-to-1bbl intake adaptor is, at base, a counterproductive waste of time. It defeats the whole purpose of going to a 2bbl from a 1bbl. We told him that, lots of us. He didn't listen. Now his car doesn't run right. Well...yeah, it's not gonna run right!

By means of comparison, consider:

Common advice from knowledgeable horse trainers includes the adage "If the horse you're riding dies, get off." Seems simple enough, doesn't it? We even have a common expression ("beating a dead horse") that refers to the futility of trying to ride a horse that has expired. Yet we don't always follow that good advice to get off the dead horse. Instead, we often choose from an array of other alternatives which include:

-Buying a stronger whip.
-Trying a new bit or bridle.
-Switching riders.
-Moving the horse to a new location.
-Riding the horse for longer periods of time.
-Saying things like, "But this is the way we've always ridden this horse."
-Appointing a committee to study the horse. (With sub-committees to study the head, tail, etc.)
-Arranging to visit other sites whey they ride dead horses more efficiently.
-Increasing the standards for riding dead horses.
-Creating a test for measuring our riding ability.
-Comparing how we're riding now with how we rode ten or twenty years ago.
-Complaining about the state of horses these days.
-Coming up with new styles of riding.
-Blaming the horse's parents. The problem is often in the breeding.
-Tightening the cinch
-Trying to resuscitate the horse.
-Loudly shouting down those who point out that the horse is dead.

You forgot 'Giving the horse a TransX enema' - that actually works.

Well, sure, but only if you first filter the TransX through a Fram filter in a polyurethane housing bought from MSD.

no need to go all the way MSD.... for a daily riden HEI is good enough

On a more serious topic, I will soon be removing the e-beam intake that's on my truck now to replace it w/ a two barrel set-up. The talk of fabrication reminded me of an idea I've been rolling the idea around in my head. What about welding a four barrel adapter plate onto it after cutting out a hole of the proper dimensions? I'll admit, I'm not even sure whether this set-up is physically possible (that intake seems to have a pretty small plenum area), but my main concern is that the intake runners are going to be entirely too short/small. Really the only thing I have to lose is the manifold and $12 worth of adapter plate, so what do you guys think?

I'm about to say something... :roll:
This ain't means no personal attack to anybody neither smartypantness, but, kesteb, this guy asked for the 2bbl onto 1bbl mani q and many of us told him not to do so.
Why not to do so? cuz we know better? no, because common sense tells us that the engine is gonna suck about the same amount of "fog" thru that 1bbl hole on the mani. This means that for the same amount of mixture that the engine is breathing is gonna be breathing the fuel of a 2bbl setup mixed with about the same air than a 1 bbl setup... guess what? if you want senseless rich mixture you should get a holley (stop smiling, dennis you rascal :lol: ) or for that matter, go to a 80 main jet and remove the power valvle circuit (cut it open to enrichen all the time) on the 1 bbl carb... then if it ain't idling, well, buddy, you can always open a vacuum leak to make it idle... but you've lost your low end driveability. In fact, we have a stocker racing category that only allows the cars to use 1 bbl carbs. Do you know what they do? they render unusable the power valvle, go rich rich rich and drill 1 little hole (like the power brakes one) in each runner of the manifold, for adding extra air. Works great btwn 2800-6000 rpm, but if you don't keep it near 2500 rpm the engine wants to stall so badly....

I seriously doubt that there's such thing as success using a stovebolt adapter. Even using the holley 2300 to carter adapter (and we're talking about 2 barrels) produces some flow issues... I know cuz I've reworked my manifold for mating the holley's throttle pattern and gained lotsa low end torque compared to the same carb on the same mani on the same engine with the exact same dialing....

So we're not really trying to be nasty with dusten###. We're taking it nicely.... we have given him advice, he did what he was going to do anyway... now he's with trouble... and we're helping him again, even thoug he may do whatever he wants to do again. We are givin our time and hard earned knowledge for free, at least I'd think that we're intitled to tell him "told you so" if he ain't follows lots of people advice, wouldn't ya, buddy???

Yes, we will ignore all those flat head and stovebolt guys that have used that adapater on their dual 1v manifolds to mate Holley 5200 carbs. They seem to have good results, but you guys have spoken and they must be full of it.

Sorry, this thread is deploarable. We should do better.

Noooo, we won't ignore those chebby guys... if they claim they mated a quadrajet on their 1 bbl manifold with the adapter and obtained 100 hp gain and 65 lbs torque improvement while reducing the fuel consumption by 75% they sure are speaking the truth... we are full of BS...
