The super-six intake needs a carb. and i was wondering if a 500 cfm. Holley would be a bit too much for that intake. If I am wrong please correct me.

Also, I was wondering if the petronix kit seen in the A/C body yearone catalog for $85 is worth the money. It says its easy to install, but It will not fit a petrolite distributor....how can you tell if you have one installed already?

depending on many factors like your cam, the amount of work done (or not) on the head and ports, and the size of the runners, and the driving style that you have or wanna do, 500 cfm is overkill or not.

I'd say that with a pretty much stocker car, with cam duration below 260 deg and lift below .460 and near stock or stock head, stock timing curve, kinda low gears, automatic trans, and moderate expectations about mileage and driveability, 500 cfm is way too much.

If you have a non restrictive exhaust, ported head with bigger valvles, a crazy cam and manual transmission, 3.9 or higher rear axle ratio... and gonna be wotting all the time, go 500 cfm and you'll be happy.

Yeah, its pretty much a stock car. The engine is blue and I have red that blue engines came out in 73' so i'm guessing the last owner switched it out. I'm hoping to put a cam in it, but i will be using it just as a daily driver since gas is so friggin' high $2.99 a gallon and all. It's got headers and an x-pipe. So overall your saying just stick with a 350 cfm. holley right?

Thanks again! Billy

P.S. what about that petronix kit? Will it earn the money i have to dish out for it?

The Pertronix may not save money - I didn't keep good enough records - but it is easier to install than a new set of points and definitely saves on hassle.

never used pertronix. Been on points, stock EI and MSD. Stock EI is very good, you get better mileage than points (don't expect more than 10% and you'll be happy) I think that the noticeable improvement is any EI over points. Do a search for HEI and you'll come up with a setup many people is adopting. I use MSD. Great setup, the only noticeable diffrence BTWn mine and stock is idle quality and throttle response (when I'm not in carb trouble like right now). The worse weakness of stock EI is the ballast. Anyway you might wanna grab a pre lean burn electronic distributer (2 wires coming out of it) at some junkyard. That will make easy for you to choose any path you want.
