I am about to put my rebuilt/modified engine back in my truck. Do I need to hook back up my vacuum amplifier, emissions cannister, CCW switch, manifold air switch and EGR stuff in general?

A better question might be: What is the minimum I need to hook back up in a vehicle that is old enough that it doesn't have to pass emissions tests?

I would leave as much of the original emission controls hooked up as possible. Have look at the following page for more information:

You don't "need" any of those things, but I sure wouldn't throw them away. Once you take a little more time to learn and experience, you'll see that not all of that stuff is bad to have around.

For one, you may not like your gas tank venting on to the ground (that stuff ain't cheap) so that's a charcoal cannister issue. You might also want to enjoy the knock reducing and fuel economy improvements of a properly operating EGR once you see what your gas mileage is like. It might not be a BIG improvement, but why throw away 1 or even just half a mile per gallon when you already have the parts at your fingertips. You'll need that vacuum amplifier to make the EGR work.

I don't know what those other things you mentioned are yet, but I'm not prone to toss it in the trash until I do.

You shouldn't see any performance decrease from these items, so why eliminate them. I suggest you learn about these system and try and make them work properly after you have your engine running.
