i cant figure out how the harmonic balancer comes off. is there a special tool i can buy to do it, or is there some way i can do it with normal tools?
if someone could describe a step by step process for removing it i would be very happy. thanks

You need a damper remover tool. Once you see it you will know how to use it.

I did not have a special tool when I did my son's, so it must have been one of his grandfather's regular ol' steering wheel or pulley puller I dug out of his shop.

You can pick up a combo puller (it doubles as a steering-wheel puller) from most part stores for under $20. It'll be cheap chinese-made junk, but it'll pull a balancer a half dozen times or so before turning to a pile of scrap metal :?

Some auto parts stores have tool rental programs, they might
have the puller. Check with Autozone and the other parts big
retailers.
